African Blue Lily
Also known as Lily of The Nile and Blue Giant, the African Blue Lily produces open balls of stunning bell-shaped blue flowers from early to late summer. Agapanthus umbellatus is synonymous with Agapanthus africanus and are semi-evergreen, working well in informal cottage or architectural planting schemes, adding a touch of the exotic. Adaptable to various sites and soil, they are increasingly popular with both gardeners and landscape designers. Nectar/pollen rich, attracting bees and other pollinators.
Site: Salt & wind tolerant, suitable for coastal gardens with some shelter
Soil: Moist, but well drained, clay tolerant, tolerates dry soil once established
Position: Full sun
Season of Interest: Blue flowers from mid to late Summer. Attractive seedheads in Winter
Hardiness: Half hardy (down to - 5°C). Slightly frost tender, protect with dry winter mulch
